JOB DESCRIPTION TEACHER
Qualifications

· Must have a minimum of 12 Early Childhood Education units (Child/ Human Development, Child, Family & Community, and curriculum courses) from an accredited college

· Must have at least 6 months experience in a licensed Child Care Center

· 16 hours of Preventive Health and Safety Training and Ped: CPR & First Aid Training

· VIRTUS: Good Touch/Bad Touch Certification

· AB 1207 Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter Training Certificate

Classroom Organization

· Implements plans concerning daily/weekly/schedule, individual and group activities for children, lesson plans, room management, and learning centers

· Maintain and organizes outside as well as inside play areas

· Light housekeeping and organizational skills are required

· Supervises and directs aides

· Maintains and keeps teaching supplies and storage areas clean and orderly

· Arranges classroom with children’s needs and fluid movement in mind

· The playground is also considered a classroom and must be kept clean and safe all times

Behavior Management

· Implements and reinforces behavior management strategies in accordance with the center’s philosophy

· Directs aides in developing their knowledge of the preschool’s philosophy

· Always conducts these strategies with kindness and respect to the child

· Corporal Punishment is NEVER acceptable

Teaching

· Plans and implements daily lesson plan works with children individually and with groups

· Models appropriate language and uses open-ended questions

· Oversees the smooth completion of daily lesson plans and routines

· Assists Children with personal hygiene and toileting when necessary

· Keeps teaching skills current by continuing education classes, seminars, and training

· Creativity is desired and expected- must be able to use and design from recycled materials

· Must be supportive of all school staff and attend staff meetings.

· Attend Professional development regarding early childhood education methodologies

· Attend and Participate in the weekly staff meeting

Working with Parents

· Communicates weekly via Newsletter and or ClassDojo to inform parents of the learning

· Greets parents/visitors and determines their needs (find child, staff member, etc.)

· Must be able to assert self in a manner as to direct visitors who do not have business at, the center to leave

· Must be prepared to ask for parent/visitor for identification

· When speaking with parents, the center’s philosophy will prevail over and individual teacher’s philosophy

· Words must be chosen VERY carefully: it may be best to confer with the director before acting

· The director should be informed of any ongoing or potential problems or concerns

· Must hold at least two Parent Conference, Orientation Day, Back to School Night, and attend General Parent Meeting held by the school each year

Working with Aides

· It is the responsibility of the teacher to direct aides to areas of need

· An aide is NEVER to be left alone with a class/individual student unless the children are napping or when accompanying a child to the restroom.

Chain of Command

· The teacher must report to the Director in the case of any issues pertaining to students, parents, and/or staff

· The Director will report to the Principal and/or Pastor in the case of any major issues pertaining to students, parents, and/or staff
