High School Guidance and College Counselor

• Provides academic skills and support for a caseload of students
• Provides communication, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution and study skills
• Educating students and parents regarding the college search and admissions process, trends, procedures, and testing; advising and supporting students and families as they go through the process
• Create a resource rich environment for students and teachers as it pertains to college information, scholarship opportunities and financial aid opportunities;
• Act as a primary contact linking students to enrichment programs, summer college programs and scholarships
• Develop strategies and tools to prepare students for the college application and financial aid process
• Research and garner scholarship and grant resources for student financial support
• Maintain detailed records for students including college application information, FAFSA completion, scholarships applied, etc.
• Assist with the organization of and attend college trips
• Works with students on identifying potential careers and the necessary educational pathway each career requires
• Serving as the University of California and NCAA point of contact maintaining the new and updated course approvals on a yearly basis in coordination with the Vice Principal of Academic Affairs
• Coordinates student academic or personal intervention
• Coordinates, organizes, and disaggregates data of all student testing (i.e. PSAT, AP, SAT, ACT) with the Counseling Department
• Conduct student interviews each semester as outlined in the Department handbook


A Salesian Educator will promote academic excellence and support the faith development of young men in a private, Catholic secondary school setting. A Salesian Educator must work in collaboration with parents, students, teachers, administration, and community in order to promote student success while supporting the faith development / formation of young men.

• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably with a major in counseling, social work, and psychology
• At least three years of experience as a counselor in a comprehensive high school setting
• Should have a relentless focus on ensuring all students are prepared for and gain acceptance to a four-year college
• Knowledge of and advocacy for the mission of Catholic Education

• Master’s Degree in a related field
• California Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPS) in Counseling
• Bilingual speaking, reading, and writing abilities (Spanish)
• Naviance software experience
• Experience managing schedules and recording log entries in PowerSchool
