St. Pius X – St. Matthias Academy (PMA) is owned and operated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and dedicated to providing a quality Catholic education to all students, committed to fostering young people’s relationship with God, devoted to educating the whole person and driven to inspire a life-long commitment to learning and service. PMA is a 9-12 college preparatory high school serving approximately 450 students with tremendous potential to serve an enrollment of 600+ students within the next 2-3 years. The pursuit of excellence in teaching students to glorify Christ in mind, body, and soul within an inclusive family based community is a foundational to our mission.
The position objective is individual character and adult staff development instructing fellow program coaches and student athletes in the system, fundamental skills, strategies and physical training necessary for them to realize their talents as well as a degree of professional, individual and team success. The Head Coach must realize and appreciate the need for the program to work with other sports as a complement to the entire athletic department within the primary objective of Catholic education. In addition, under the direction of the School Principal, Athletic Director and C.I.F. S.S. guidelines, to instill the values of good sportsmanship and fair play along with providing a positive St. Pius X- St. Matthias Academy role model for each student athlete and assistant coach in their program.
A valid California Teacher’s Credential, Head coaching or equivalent experience is preferred. Two years previous high school varsity coaching or equivalent required. Valid CPR and First Aid card. Must also be trained in principles of “Play Like a Champion” Coaches Certification. Practicing Catholic applicants are preferred.
A working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Catholic Church. If a baptized Catholic, must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.

Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, coaches, students, and the general public.
Must be a self-starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance.
Ability to successfully pass a background, criminal history, and credit history check.
- Special Knowledge/Skills/Attributes: Knowledge:
- Must have experience or a desire to work in a Catholic school.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the sport is paramount. Extensive knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of CIF Southern Section Rules, Regulations and Guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student athletes.
- Utilization of technology is required.
- Preference is given to practicing Roman Catholics.
