Full Time Hourly Position

St. Mary’s Academy seeks a responsible and experienced General Maintenance/ Custodian for the day-to-day maintenance of the facility. St. Mary’s Academy is a Catholic, private, college preparatory high school for young women, founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, that shapes women of distinction who are committed to lifelong learning and service to the “dear neighbor”.
This position is responsible for maintenance of assigned school facilities (e.g. classrooms, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
Inspects school facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.
Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g. cleaning solutions, paper products, mops, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items required to properly maintain facilities. Work with other members of the facility team to ensure the school is a clean and safe environment in which students can learn.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Completes and assures routine maintenance of buildings.
• Completes and assures minor plumbing, painting, carpentry and electrical repairs or repair work in assigned facilities, where a professional license is not required.
• Assists and ensures routine maintenance is carried out such as replacing light bulbs, and maintaining equipment used in the course of work.
• Cleans restrooms, including restocking dispensers, emptying trash, cleaning and sanitizing fixtures, cleaning mirrors, spot cleaning partition doors and walls, sweeping and mopping tile floors, and cleaning toilets and urinals.
• Cleans and disinfects restrooms, break/lunchrooms, conference rooms, and other highly use common areas.
• Operates power cleaning equipment to accomplish assigned tasks.
• Sets up, moves, or puts away tables and chairs in the school.
• Notifies supervisor concerning need for repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
• May transport equipment, boxes, or furniture between various school work areas.
• Performs painting work as needed.
• Performs grounds keeping activities such as cleaning lawns, raking leaves, trimming shrubs, and general grounds maintenance such as clearing litter and debris.
• Complies with all applicable school, fire and safety rules and regulations.
• Performs related duties as required.
• Maintains an organized work area.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• High School Diploma/GED
• Minimum 2 Year Experience in the field (Maintenance/Custodial)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
• Knowledge of:
o Building and equipment maintenance procedures.
• Skill in:
o Using cleaning chemicals and equipment appropriately.
• Maintenance and cleaning procedures.
• Operating cleaning equipment.
• Operating light duty equipment.
• Ability to:
o Follow oral and written directions.
o Maintain a reasonable record of attendance and punctuality.
o Take proactive measures to ensure the safety of the school.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Frequently lift up to 50 pounds
• Frequently perform tasks requiring climbing, crouching, kneeling, stooping and bending
• Stand and walk for sustained periods of time
OTHER
• Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the school at all times
• Attend staff meetings
• Participate in recommended training programs
• Maintain a reasonable record of attendance and punctuality
• Reports directly to Facilities & Maintenance Manager
