The Director of Youth Ministry provides coordination for the parish’s efforts in ministry to young people from 7th through 12th grades. The youth minister is responsible for developing a pastoral ministry with middle school and high school youth. The youth minister reaches out to all youth in the faith community, provides fun and inspiring catechesis through Life Nights, scripture study, and invites and enables Adult Core members to serve teens. The Youth Minister develops close communication with and mutual support from families of youth.
The ideal candidate for Youth Minister will possess the following qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years experience as a youth minister preferred
B.A. or Master’s degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, or related field, knowledge of Catholic teachings, catechesis and documents on youth ministry.
Strong Catholic values
Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in composing correspondence and letters and in publishing e-newsletters and flyers, ability to develop and facilitate youth programs and confirmation sessions; ability to read and understand church documents and guidelines.
Excellent organization skills
Good event planning skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to work collaboratively with others
Collaborates with other staff in planning common projects, participates in staff planning and communicates to staff about youth ministry activities.
Ability to recruit and train adult volunteers
Ability to solve problems, make sound decisions, and deal with a variety of concrete variables
Ability to interface and collaborate with teens as well as adults; strong interpersonal skills
Computer knowledge: (Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint, social networking, email and internet)
