DescriptionPrimary Function: Under the direction of the Pastor, responsible for working cooperatively with the Pastor, parish leaders, School Principal, and others to plan and foster music and liturgy that promotes the glorification of God and sanctification of God’s people through full, conscious and active participation of the assembly. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Performs as a lay minister in support of the parish’s spiritual and pastoral mission. • Abides by Catholic principles in professional and private life, and governs his/her professional and private life in accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures. • Ensures that all liturgical musicians, choir members, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Lectors are well-versed in the liturgy of the Church and the propriety of their duties including and understanding of the rubrics of the Church. • Responsible for all music associated with worship and liturgy in accordance with the currently accepted practices of the Roman Catholic Church. • Attains copyright permission for music as necessary. • Holds regularly scheduled rehearsals of the music to be used at liturgies. • Provides liturgical formation, music education, and practical preparation for cantors, choir members and instrumentalists. • Responsible for the implementation of liturgical ministers for liturgies, including recruiting, training, and rehearsing for all who participate. • Provides music as musician/vocalist/director for all liturgical celebrations of Sundays, feast days, seasons and special liturgical events. • Serves as a resource person for the parish school, religious education and youth ministry programs. • Provides musical input and copyright information for the preparation of worship aids. • Participates in liturgy committee, pastoral staff and Parish Leadership Team meetings. • Researches new music to integrate into existing repertoire. • Responsible for developing and maintaining a parish music/choral library. • Arranges music tailored to specific liturgical and musical-ensemble configurations. • Responsible for hiring of professional musicians for weekly liturgies, special Masses and events. • Responsible for scheduling volunteer and professional cantors and instrumentalist for weekly liturgies, special Masses and events. • Responsible for submitting time sheets for professional musicians and cantors. • Provides guidance and music for wedding and funeral liturgies. • Creates and maintains a budget for the music ministry. • Prepares hardcopies Worship Aids/ lyric projection (when available). • Responsible for sound equipment set-up and maintenance. • Responsible for providing FM transmission of Sunday Mass (when necessary). • As requested, performs additional duties assigned by Pastor.
RequirementsSalary commensurate with education, experience, and workload. Benefits are offered in accordance with federal, state, diocesan, and parish guidelines.
