Director of Academics

Santa Clara High School, located in Oxnard, CA is seeking a part-time Director of Academics. As a Catholic High School owned and operated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Established in 1901, Santa Clara High School exists to provide its students with a Catholic education and is committed to developing faith-filled, morally aware, and academically strong individuals who are of service to society.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Principal, with the approval of the Department of Catholic Schools, appoints the Director of Academics. The Director will report directly to the Principal. The prime responsibility is to assist, facilitate and manage an appropriate program of studies and curriculum policies for the student body. The Director of Academics is also responsible for the fulfillment of curriculum and instruction and organizational functions.

  • Implements, with department chairs, policies and procedures related to studies such as grading, grade books, exams, and report cards.
  • Schedules quarter and semester exams.
  • Reviews grade sheets for accuracy, correctness and timeliness.
  • Coordinates the process for distribution of failure notices and progress reports.
  • Arranges for the academic awards assemblies.
  • Notifies the Principal in cases where the policies of the school are not properly carried out regarding studies.
  • Coordinates the grading and report card preparation process with the registrar and teachers.
  • Organizes the Back to School Night, fall and spring Parent Conferences
  • Approves classroom guest speakers
  • Chairs monthly the Academic Council meetings, prepares agenda and collaborates with department chairs to strengthen, review, modify, implement any curriculum needs.
  • In partnership with the counselor develops the course catalogue describing all course offerings and coordinates with the teachers the titles of books to be purchased each year after approval by the Principal.
  • Coordinates the ongoing implementation of the WCEA/WASC action plans.
  • Serves as a member of the Administrative Council
  • Oversees faculty lesson plans and overall academic grades
  • Reports any academic news during PTO monthly meetings. ON ZOOM
  • In partnership with the Principal, conducts informal classroom observations, instructional supervisions, learning walks and walkthroughs.
  • With the Principal, gathers appropriate input, prepares the annual, written evaluation of each teacher.
  • In partnership with the Principal, directs, supervises, and evaluates department chairpersons in carrying out their management, supervision, and leadership responsibilities and in implementing the policies and practices of the school within their department.
  • Conducts frequent meetings with the counselor and faculty check ins to help support.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Principal.

Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate a track record of success, hard work, flexibility, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to accomplish their instructional goals with their students. In addition, applicants must:

  • Have two or more years of full-time teaching experience leading a 9-12 class
  • Master’s Degree in Education or related field and California Credential preferred

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
