Director, Information Technology (IT)

Bishop Alemany High School (Mission Hills)






The Director provides strategic input on the use of IT to meet organizational goals as well as tactical leadership of day-to-day IT operations and staff activities. The Director must be able to communicate goals, policies, and operational knowledge to a wide range of constituents to meet the organization’s efficiency and security needs. Finally, the Director needs to keep current on both education-focused and more general technology and security trends to be able to provide guidance on IT operations to IT staff and senior leadership.


The Director, IT is responsible for:

  • The overall operations and management of all IT systems, hardware and services used by the school
  • The overall cybersecurity posture and incident response management for all IT systems used by the school
  • The creation and maintenance of policies, procedures, and training materials to be used by staff, students, and other users of the school’s various IT systems
  • The creation and management of budgets that cover capital and operational expenses of IT systems and services required for continued operation of the school
  • Managing technical staff assigned to the Director’s department
  • Reporting to senior management on a regular basis to provide guidance on current operations, anticipated changes to IT systems and services and insights on future IT needs by the school


Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of the purpose, installation, operation, and maintenance of a broad range of computer hardware, peripherals, structured network equipment, cabling and IT-focused physical plant equipment
  • Knowledge of the purpose, installation, operation, and maintenance of a broad range of operating systems (including Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, and Linux-like), application software (including Microsoft Office and similar office automation applications) and cloud-based data services and applications
  • The ability to engineer, implement and manage IPv4-based networks (IPv6 is a plus) delivered over Ethernet, fiber, Wi-Fi, or VPN
  • The ability to engineer, implement and manage network security systems, host-based security systems and content management/filtering systems
  • The ability to determine organizational needs/problems that IT systems and services can solve and develop solutions plans for review by senior management
  • The ability to write organizational-class documents to codify policies and procedures for systems and processes
  • Be able to manage assigned projects from inception to completion
  • Be able to manage staff assigned to the department
  • Be able to communicate effectively with all constituents
  • Be able to create and report on scoped budgets as directed by senior management


A minimum of seven years of experience with increasing responsibilities over that time.


Recommendation (not required):  BS in a relevant field (CS or engineering). An industry certification more specifically in the cybersecurity field and the management field (project management or general business management).
