Description
The Custodial Technician cleans and maintains Verbum Dei’s buildings, facilities and equipment to ensure the campus is clean, healthy, and safe. This position also removes and disposes trash, recycling, and other waste following policies and supervisor’s direction. The Custodial Technician also performs basic maintenance duties including, installing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining facility equipment according to safety, predictive, and preventive maintenance systems and processes.
* Responsible for a circuit of shared cleaning duties of Verbum Dei buildings and grounds, including floors, showers, sinks, walls, roofs, and carpets.
* Inspects the interior and exterior of buildings and facilities for appearance, cleanliness, and sanitary condition including the removal of trash and debris.
* Detects safety hazards and elevates any concerns to supervisor; Complies with safety rules and maintains clean and orderly work areas.
* Moves and assists in moving furniture and equipment at various facilities/sites; sets up and breaks down equipment for school functions and events.
* Performs minor troubleshooting and repairs on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and roofing systems including diagnosing problems, replacing/repairing parts, testing, and making necessary adjustments; reports complex/complicated maintenance issues to supervisor. Performs simple machinist duties and responsibilities.
* Performs basic preventive maintenance on equipment and facilities including plumbing, painting, and carpentry-related functions.
* Uses a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
* Drives school-owned vehicles as needed.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent
One (1) year of experience in building maintenance trades (i.e. carpentry, electrical, HVAC, etc.).
Valid California driver’s license
Effectively communicate orally and in writing, including ability to follow instructions
Knows and demonstrates techniques of using maintenance tools and equipment.
* Aware of safety practices, including proper tool and equipment handling, and safely lifting and moving heavy objects.
* Abilities to (1) stand, walk, bend, crawl, climb, reach overhead, crouch, kneel, balance, push, and pull, (2) safely lift and carry tools and materials weighing up to 100 pounds, (3) work safely at heights including the use of ladders, scaffolds, and other related equipment, and (4) safely work in confined spaces.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
