Position Summary: The Coordinator of Youth Ministry is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive model for Youth Ministry, including the Confirmation Preparation Programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
All employees of Our Lady of the Assumption Church represent the Roman Catholic Church; they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.
1. The Coordinator administers the parish ministry with youth by:
facilitating the planning, implementation and evaluation of long and short range program goals
serving as a member and attending meetings of the pastoral team and ministry staff
establishing a collaborative relationship with other members of the pastoral staff
developing and supervising the program budget
assuring that the legal and moral responsibilities are provided for within the context of the parish program
serving as staff liaison to a parish leadership coordinating council
fulfills other duties as assigned by supervisor
2. The Coordinator promotes the faith formation of youth by:
a) developing and implementing evangelization and outreach programs
b) promoting active youth worship including inclusive and participative liturgy and prayer opportunities
c) provides a catechetical component in youth gatherings and offers catechesis in other practical ways .
c) administering the Confirmation Preparation Program
d) Planning, scheduling, and leading (or finds leaders for) an annual retreat for teens focusing on some aspect of spiritual growth .
3. The Coordinator recruits, forms, and supports adult and youth leaders in youth ministry by:
promoting the spiritual formation of youth and adult leaders
inviting, training, and supervising adult and teen Confirmation leaders
providing leadership to the core team in planning and coordinating programs and services
developing ministry descriptions and recruitment processes
facilitating the training and support of leaders
The Coordinator empowers youth for Christian ministry by:
facilitating the training and formation of youth as leaders
providing opportunities for service and linking such opportunities to the fostering of peace and justice
5. The Coordinator acts as an advocate and link for youth by:
interpreting the needs of youth to the pastoral team and the community
facilitating the development of community among young people, their families, their parish and the local community
supporting families in their role of promoting healthy adolescent development and faith growth
partnering with schools and the civic community to promote effective services for youth and positive values in youth
providing multicultural and multilingual ministry as needed
promoting the pastoral care of youth and families
Practicing Catholic dedicated to building a faith community among youth.
Demonstrated skills in collaboration, planning, and organization.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Commitment to continuing professional development in Youth Ministry (such as Certificate in Youth Ministry, Basic or Master Catechist Formation) required.
Bachelors degree preferred.
Familiarity with Life Teen Program preferred.
