Description
Primary Function: Under the direction of the Pastor and Music Director, the Cantor is responsible for leading the congregation in singing and leading the choir’s tenor section. This includes singing solo liturgical songs, verses or passages to which the congregation may respond. Services may also include funerals, weddings, holy days and Sunday worship. The Cantor shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching both academically and behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, “…Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received.” (Eph. 4:1)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Lead the 11:00am Sunday Mass (with choir) with the opportunity of cantoring at other masses.
• Give evidence of living Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of a personal faith journey; strive to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
• Develop liturgical music to be used during liturgical celebrations in which the Cantor will participate.
• With the pastor’s approval, work with musicians and choir members to ensure the proper Church protocol is followed, including maintaining an environment of respect and solemnity at all liturgical celebrations
• Meet on a regular basis and maintain open communications with volunteer and other musicians and rehearse or provide training as necessary
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability, and ability to lift as required in a normal church environment.

Basic Qualifications:
• Possess a working knowledge of and a solid commitment to the mission of the Catholic Church; must also be a practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church
• Employ flexibility and follow direction; be a team player and be self-motivated
• Perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency
• Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parishioners, and the public
• Research and retrieve information from the internet as needed for liturgical purposes.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Ability to successfully pass a background and criminal history check.
• Clean and neat personal appearance
Education and Experience:
• Experience in choral music
• Vocal training and experience with Catholic liturgical music and song.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
