Summary: This position is part-time and Monday through Fridays 2pm-7pm. This position is a ten month position with mid June through mid August off. Ensures the safety and protection of students, faculty and staff, and property. Patrols and inspects campus including parking lots, buildings, teaching facilities and grounds to assure security and prevent damage to or loss of school and employee property. Maintains complete confidentiality of students and families. Shares information on a need-to-know basis only and also with law enforcement upon request.

Essential Job Functions:
CAMPUS SAFETY
Maintain readiness to respond to the Academy’s “Safety & Security” phone numbers, as appropriate.
Conducts scheduled patrols of campus to ensure security and watches for conditions that could result in injury or loss due to fire, water leakage, spills, etc; escorts visitors as requested.
Responds to “Calls for Service” and completes incident reports when required; Records data such as property damage, and unusual occurrences.
Reports to supervisors any unusual or suspicious condition detected.
Assists in properly responding to emergencies in order to preserve life and property.
Opens or locks doors, windows, and gates at proper times based on campus schedule.
Reports to supervisors any incidence of visitor, driver, student, or employee actions which could result in injury or loss to School or employees.
Required to work several mandatory events through school year. May also be required to adjust hours or be on-call for safety or security related incidents, or as needed.
Assist with performing technical Campus Safety inspections (fire alarms, fire extinguishers, locks, health and safety permits, emergency preparedness and other security and safety related items) as scheduled.
Participates in all safety training (e.g., First Aid, CPR, AED, and Fire Prevention).
Helps identify safety and security weaknesses and recommends procedures for improvements.

TRANSPORTATION & TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT
Directs traffic daily in the Upper lot in AM and PM to ensure compliance with guidelines
Enforces parking assignments for faculty, staff and students.
Patrols, enforces, and maintains the Good Neighbor Policy with our surrounding residences.
Communicates with Bus Drivers on schedules and attendance sheets. The Officer shall reconcile the attendance sheets and report them on the bus log. Reports to the Business Office on bus related issues.
Operates and handles our Late Bus program.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
Assist the Campus Safety Supervisor with the school’s emergency preparedness program in developing procedures and protocols to deal with emergencies.
Helps annually update the emergency backpacks and its contents.
Helps maintains three days’ worth of food and water for all students and faculty.

ACADEMY FLEET INSPECTIONS
Shall assist in weekly vehicle inspections; wash, and gas all Academy-owned vehicles. The Officer shall keep a log on areas inspected and work done. The Officer will also read through the Driver Log books to preserve accuracy, and report inconsistencies to the Facilities Director.

Other Job Functions: Other duties as assigned from time to time.

Education and Experience:
At least 3 years’ experience in the Security, Safety, or Law Enforcement field.
California Guard Card, preferred
CERT qualified or equivalent emergency response training.
Successfully completed American Red Cross first-aid and CPR course, or equivalent. EMT certification recommended.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
MICROSOFT OFFICE – Proficient in Outlook email functions
FIRST AID – Ability to provide first aid or CPR if needed
PROBLEM SOLVING & ANALYSIS – Ability to identify problems, conduct appropriate analysis and reach effective solutions commensurate with level of responsibility.
OFFICE ADMINISTRATION–Ability to process paperwork timely, maintain a filing system, etc

INITIATIVE/PROFESSIONALISM – As a first-responder, must be able to react appropriately under emergency and other stressful situations. Professional presentation and a friendly, yet assertive, disposition are required.
LEARNING POSTURE – Must maintain a learning posture and embrace change and growth individually and institutionally. Expected to participate in professional development training and the annual employee retreat.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Must be able to walk hills, stairs, and stand for long period of time, or for long distances with or without weighted objects. Work requires considerable walking to complete patrols. Works primarily outdoors often in inclement weather.
Requires a majority of time (over 80%) to be spent walking or standing.
Arduous: Able to lift at least 50 lbs while twisting or bending down.
Maintain a professional stature under uncomfortable adversarial conditions.
Possess the capability to self-defend, and the aptitude to intervene in physical altercations.
