Description

Villanova Preparatory School, a private, co-ed Catholic Augustinian college preparatory school located in beautiful Ojai, California, is seeking an experienced Campus Minister for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Villanova Preparatory School, operated under the ownership of the Augustinian Fathers, is accredited by the Western Catholic Education Association and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The school attracts highly talented and highly motivated students seeking a quality educational experience rooted in the Catholic Augustinian intellectual and spiritual tradition.

The responsibilities of this position include:

Mass Preparation: Bi-monthly masses (twice a month) are scheduled for the school community.

  • Invite and schedule local priests to preside at all-school masses, send out reminders, and submit requests for stipends.
  • Schedule and train lectors, altar servers, and eucharistic ministers for each mass.
  • Prepare mass readings and prayers of the faithful for each mass.
  • Act as the sacristan on Mass day.
  • Coordinate appropriate liturgical music for the mass.
  • Coordinate the setup for the mass.
  • Support the organization of Junior Leadership Mass and Baccalaureate Mass.

Service

  • Hold a service assembly at the beginning of the school year to inform students of the requirements and introduce them to local service organizations.
  • Assist students in finding and scheduling service opportunities.
  • Track and approve service hours in the Mobile Serve application.
  • Work with resident staff and resident students to make sure service opportunities are being provided and hours completed.
  • Organize and run an all-school (HS and MS) service day during the second semester. This includes contacting local non-profits, scheduling transportation, and planning the opening with mass and closing assembly.
  • Meet with students who are falling behind on service hours and work with them to schedule and commit to service hours.
  • Coordinate with the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish to support the ministry to the poor (Food Bank once a month) and Soup Kitchen (winter months).

Retreats

  • Schedule all class retreats (6th-12th grade).
  • Coordinate and plan bi-annual faculty and staff retreats with the Chaplain.
  • Book venues, plan transportation and meal requests, and write retreat schedules.
  • Coordinate and train peer leaders and chaperones.
  • Lead and execute each retreat.
  • Coordinate with Admissions about the Parochial Middle School leadership retreat

Ministry

  • Hold weekly campus ministry meetings with students at lunch or after school.
  • Run morning prayer and announcements with ASB officers.
  • Assist all school events (meetings, sports, assemblies) in prayer before and after each event.
  • Be available for students during breaks, lunch, and after school.
  • Support those students who are in Sacramental Preparation and/or considering becoming Catholic.
  • Facilitate spiritually-led clubs (such as a Bible study club) and support theology classes by assisting students new to Catholicism with their understanding of the Church and Faith
  • Create a program for incoming freshman and transfer students to Villanova Prep including:
  • Villanova’s Core Values of Unity, Truth, and Love
  • St Augustine, the Order, and Augustinian Saints
  • Introduction to Christianity and Our Catholic Faith

Middle School

  • Be available to students as the campus minister
  • Create a service program for MS.
  • Help the MS Religion teacher in planning weekly chapel time and Masses.

Committees

  • Member of the Student Life Council
  • Member of the Mission Effectiveness Committee of the Board of Directors.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to understand and promote Catholic and Augustinian values
  • Able to work with a supervisor and as part of a team
  • Faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church
  • Ability to relate and work with middle and high school-age students and faculty
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain a budget
  • Flexible, patient, and organized
  • Ability to maintain communication with service agencies
  • Valid California Driver’s License to transport students in a 7-9 passenger van

Desired Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or Master’s Degree, preferably in Theology or Pastoral Ministry
  • Experience leading Music Ministry and familiarity with liturgical music
  • Experience teaching and/or coaching middle or high school students
  • Experience working in a Catholic/Christian high school environment

The Campus Minister is scheduled to work Tuesday-Saturday for a total of 32 hours per week for 11 months of the year (excluding July). The starting wage of $26-$30 an hour is based upon, but not limited to, several factors that include years of experience, education level, and expertise.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
