Job Title: Assistant Principal of Student Affairs
Status: Regular, Full-Time
Work Year: 11 months (August 1 – June 30)
Classification: Exempt
Supervisor: Principal

Summary: Reporting directly to the Principal, the Assistant Principal of Student Affairs works with the Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction assisting the Principal in the administration and supervision of the high school, exercising such authority in absence of the Principal.

The Assistant Principal of Student Affairs provides leadership and assists the Principal in maintaining an environment that reflects the Academy’s mission to educate young women for a life of faith, integrity, and truth. This position is part of the High School Administrative Team and Academy Administration. The position requires that the person be a practicing Roman Catholic.

Essential Job Functions:
• Assists the Principal in the administration and supervision of the high school and may exercise such authority in the absence of the Principal.
 Meets weekly with the Principal and the Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction.

• Oversees Co-curricular Program and Student Activities
 Student Council Moderator, coordinates all ASB events, elections, and activities
 Collaborates with the Director of Community Life
 Budget manager for ASB, co-curricular groups, student activities, and events
 Assists the Principal in assigning Plus One activities to faculty, i.e., assigning Co-Curricular Program moderators and other Plus One assignments as approved
 Oversees Co-Curricular programs and their activities throughout the year
 Monitors assigned faculty Plus One assignments to ensure that faculty moderators are involved and that co-curricular groups are running effectively, electing leaders, holding regular meetings, planning and carrying out activities
 Ensures that class moderators are effective at helping students plan their grade-level sponsored events
 Create and update an accountability tool for Plus One role effectiveness
 Provides feedback and guidance as needed.
 Coordinates assignment of the bulletin boards to Co-Curricular Groups
 Monitors appearance and content of boards; set up and clean up
 Coordinates Co-Curricular presentations for Open House and other events
 Partners in the planning and coordination of graduation, baccalaureate, and related events;
 Represents all areas of Student Affairs at parent nights, open house, and other official functions as requested
 Contributes to teacher annual evaluations regarding their co-curricular performance, compliance with student behavior management and related attendance policies.

• Calendar Oversight and Coordination
 Works with all Ad Team, Curriculum Board and AA members to build out the annual calendar and then integrates co-curricular programs to coordinate campus events
 Collaborates with website staff to post calendar and all updates in a timely way
 Generates a weekly bulletin including all campus events for the following week
 Chairs monthly calendar review meetings for all departments on campus to identify and confirm schedule and events
 Acts as gatekeeper throughout the year for all calendar changes
 Adds new events as approved and moves already identified and calendared events as necessary
 Acts as resource for all departments seeking information about, or seeking to add additional events

• Oversees student restorative justice practices and behavior related attendance policies
 Annually reviews the Restorative Justice Program and recommends changes.
 Partners with Flintridge Sacred Heart departments in the annual revision and publication of Parent/Student Handbook. Serves as final editor of the Parent/Students Handbook and publishes it by August 1st each year
 Communicates with students, parents, and teachers regarding student behavior and restorative justice projects
 Collaborates with faculty in setting behavioral expectations and assisting with behavior management issues as they arise
 Informs the Principal (and other senior leaders as appropriate) regarding disciplinary outcomes
 Collaborates with students in managing relational challenges
 Works with attendance clerk, faculty and other departments on campus in the functioning of restorative justice projects
 Supervises major behavior challenges including behavior that violates the academic integrity policy and works with student support services, and when appropriate, the Principal and the Administrative Team to develop successful resolutions
 Keeps the Principal informed about serious behavior management cases including issues related to academic integrity

• Supervises Campus Minister and oversees campus ministry program
 Oversees the campus ministry programs to ensure that they fulfill the mission of the school
 Meets regularly with the Campus Minister to provide support and direction as their immediate supervisor
 Assists Campus Minister in annual review of retreats/retreat program
 Partners with the Campus Minister in student leader ministry training
 Supports the Campus Minister in planning Masses, prayer services, and other liturgical events
 Executes the annual performance evaluation for the Campus Minister according to current evaluation procedures

• Supervises Athletic Director and oversees athletic program
 Meets regularly with the Athletic Director to provide support and direction as their immediate supervisor
 Oversees athletic program and attends special athletic events as able and appropriate
 Ensures that the athletic department, working with human resources, follows all hiring procedures.
 Ensures that the Athletic Director works with Human Resources and the Business Office regarding the hiring of coaches.

• Advising
 May handle a caseload of student advisees in conjunction with the advising program

• Reports
 Fills out and submits Archdiocesan Calendar
 Collaborates with the religious studies department chair, the Director of Adult Mission Formation, Principal and President (and other appropriate personnel) to complete and submit Annual Catholicity Report
 Prepares department reports for board of directors’ meetings

Requirements

Education and Experience:
• Must be a practicing Roman Catholic
• BA in education or related field. MA in education, educational leadership, or related field, preferred
• 5+ years’ successful secondary teaching/counseling experience
• 3+ years’ in academic leadership, mentoring/supervising teachers
• Enjoys working with students in non-classroom settings. Knows how engage students’ interests, talents, and desire to be good global citizens.
• Strong leadership skills
• Excellent organizational and managerial skills
• Experience as a team-builder and collaborator. Able to build effective relationships with staff, faculty, students and parents.
• Commitment to establishing a safe, disciplined environment that fosters mutual respect
• Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with, able to incorporate restorative/reconciliation practices.
• Ability to adapt to changing work priorities and maintains confidentiality
• Comfortable with technology. Proficient with MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Google Suites. Good knowledge of Excel and the use of academic technology.
• Ability to accurately compile and assess data, summarize information and provide reports to the Principal, Board of Directors, Archdiocese or others as needed.
• Ability to apply laws, policies, regulations, and procedures fairly and consistently.
• Engages in regular professional development to keep current with best practices in education and trends in the legal landscape.
