Summary: Reporting directly to the Controller, the Accounting Specialist supports financial operations primarily by performing accounting services related to student enrollment, billing and collections. The Accounting Specialist also supports transportation management and other areas.

Essential Job Functions:

Student Accounts
• STUDENT CONTRACT MANAGEMENT – Coordinates the update and distribution of student enrollment materials, and tracking completion of enrollment requirements.
• BILLING – Bills student accounts in a timely and accurate manner. Creates and maintains payment plans in the billing system.
• RECEIPT PROCESSING – Records cash receipts to payment plans, and prepares batch cash receipts postings for student accounts and other areas, assigns proper coding and processes in the general ledger in a timely manner.
• COLLECTION – Monitors collection status of student accounts and initiates follow up in accordance with policy and procedure to escalate to management as necessary.
• RECONCILIATION – Analyzes assigned accounts for accuracy and reconciles on a timely basis.
• STUDENT/PARENT EVENTS – Plans and oversees the flow of the events relating to student accounts and transportation, including a few evening and weekend work requirements.
• FINANCIAL AID – Provide overall administrative support, including answering basic customer calls, file administration, etc.
• CUSTOMER SERVICE – Manages the high volume of customer requests in a friendly, helpful and efficient manner.
Transportation
∙ Oversees the administration of this process including registration & payment, tracking and follow up, customer service calls, etc.
Other
∙ MONTH‐END – Provide support for processing monthly and quarterly journal entries, account analysis, reconciliation and variance analysis.
∙ ACCOUNTS PAYABLE SUPPORT – Provide support for accounts payable processing, including vendor management, invoice processing, payment and filing..
∙ AUDIT SUPPORT – Provide support for audit schedules, account analysis and research.
∙ AD HOC PROJECTS – Provide support for other analyses and reporting needed.
∙ Other duties as assigned, such as administration of food services account support, parent service hours, etc.
Education and Experience:
∙ Associate Degree in Accounting is preferred.
∙ Minimum 3‐5 years of relevant experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
∙ MICROSOFT OFFICE – Proficient in Word and Excel functions; 10 key skills.
∙ GOOGLE WORKSPACE – Proficient in productivity and collaboration tools (such as Gmail, Drives, Calendar, etc).
∙ GENERAL LEDGER – Strong working knowledge of window based GL and reporting software packages such as Blackbaud, Microsoft Dynamics GP, and Sage 50 Accounting. Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge preferred.
∙ ACCOUNTING KNOWLEDGE – Knowledge of financial statement review, reconciliation skills, debit and credit accounting and ability to satisfactorily complete the bookkeeping quiz.
∙ TECHNOLOGY – Ability to apply technology solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
∙ PROBLEM SOLVING & ANALYSIS – Ability to identify problems, conduct appropriate analysis and reach effective solutions commensurate with level of responsibility.
∙ OFFICE ADMINISTRATION – Strong ability to process paperwork, maintain effective filing system, etc.

∙ COMMUNICATION – Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to effectively communicate with Business Office management, parents, students, co‐workers, and other employees is critical to success in this position.
∙ PEOPLE SKILLS – Must be customer service oriented and seek to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with employees, parents and other Academy constituencies encountered.
∙ INITIATIVE – Must possess the ability to proactively initiate, participate and follow through on work assignments. Positive attitude and teamwork perspective is essential.
∙ LEARNING POSTURE – Must maintain a learning posture and embrace change and growth individually and institutionally. Expected to participate in professional development training and the annual employee retreat.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
∙ Requires a majority of time (up to 70%) to be spent walking and sitting.
∙ Some standing required and the ability to lift, carry and/or pull at least 10 pounds.
∙ Adverse movements required such as reaching overhead, bending, or crouching.
∙ Simultaneous/repetitive use of both hands is required for writing and data entry.
∙ Excellent sensory skills are important (sight, hearing and speech).
