DescriptionThe Archdiocese of Los Angeles seeks an experienced professional in our Accounting Department. The ideal candidate will have extensive accounting experience, specifically in the area of managing the monthly accounting close cycle and resulting financial statement preparation. Our accounting department is looking for a candidate who can accomplish the following: • Manage monthly accounting close process • Create, transmit and manage monthly accounting close calendar • Validate all transactions prior to posting to the general ledger (e.g. accounts payable, cash receipts, general ledger entries) - post transactions to general ledger after validation • Review monthly general ledger account reconciliations and assist accounting staff in resolving unreconciled conditions or other related issues. • Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual GAAP financial statements • Assist in the annual financial statement audit by preparing various required accounting schedules, as well as answering auditor questions • Interpret and apply newly implemented FASB accounting pronouncements • Manage all Serenic Navigator system master data changes (e.g. general ledger accounts, cost centers, funds, product codes, project codes etc.) • Participate in audit of Serenic Navigator system security permissions in conjunction with the Applied Technology team • Identify potential improvements in internal controls and accounting workflows and make recommendations • Ensure staff upholds and role models our Pastoral Values of Service, Communication, Stewardship and Excellence.
RequirementsThe ideal candidate for the Accounting Manager position must own the following experience, education and skills: • Bachelor of Science degree in Finance or Accounting • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred • 7-10 years of general accounting experience • 2-3 years of supervisory experience, preferably in the role of an accounting manager responsible for the monthly accounting close cycle, preferably someone who has supervised a couple of senior accounts. • Experience in interpreting and applying existing, and issued but not yet implemented, FASB accounting pronouncements • Non-profit accounting experience and/or auditing is preferred • Serenic Navigator system experience is preferred • Strong interpersonal communication skills with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels both externally and internally • Strong written communication skills • Strong and effective supervisory skills • Assist in managing and improving the performance of individuals to build a strong, effective, knowledgeable and responsive accounting team. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Bilingual skills – English and Spanish a plus
