POSITION SUMMARY:

The Academic Excellence Specialist (AES) collaborates with the DCS Excellence Team to identify and support the needs of the schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.  The AES reports directly to the Assistant Superintendent of High School Academic Excellence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and missions of the Church in performing their work.

  • Build the collective capacity of leaders and teachers in the areas supported by Onward 4 Excellence. Specifically,
    • Facilitate both large and small group professional development for cohorts of schools.
    • Implement the DCS designed professional development and resources for leaders and teachers.
    • Conduct site visits to support implementation on the school level.
    • Facilitate virtual PLC’s with leaders.
    • Collect, analyze, and respond to data related to Onward 4 Excellence supports.
  • Develop and maintain professional rapport and trust with leaders and teachers.
  • Support teacher leaders in areas related to Onward 4 Excellence.
  • Collaborate with the DCS Excellence Team (ES and HS) on a weekly basis.  Specifically,
    • Attend the assigned weekly collaboration time.
    • Assist in the design of professional development and resources for leaders and teachers in areas supported by Onward 4 Excellence.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development for coaching, curriculum, instruction, and PLC’s.
  • Additional work as assigned

Requirements

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

  • Active member of a Roman Catholic faith community.
  • Master degree in Educational Administration and/or Education.
  • Teaching Credential.
  • Instructional leadership/coaching experience.
  • At least 5 years teaching experience
  • Knowledge of research regarding core instructional practices, curriculum development, and professional learning communities.

Abilities

  • Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Sit for sustained periods of time on a daily basis.
  • Stand for long periods of time on a daily basis.
  • Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, and walking.
  • Sustain frequent movement of the fingers, wrists, hands, and arms.
  • Drive to ACC and assigned school locations.
