Description

St. Monica Catholic High School is a coeducational, parish high school that provides a college preparatory curriculum for students of diverse abilities, cultures, and faiths. St. Monica Catholic High School is accepting resumes for a full-time Guidance Counselor for the 2020-2021 school year to work primarily with 9th and 10th-grade students.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Conducting one-on-one meetings with parents and students to develop a 4-year academic / social-emotional plan, discuss college and career goals, and select classes each year. Have knowledge of Naviance to help students navigate the college and career search process. Monitoring students’ academic progress throughout the year and creating student success plans.

Conducting group sessions to address academic and social issues that may hinder progress, i.e., study skills, stress management, executive function issues; problems in society such as social media, transition to high school or from grade to grade.

Working with students who learn differently. The candidate must have extensive knowledge of various clinical disorders and processing deficits, and accommodations to support the students. Collaborate with teachers to implement accommodations. Assist with making requests for accommodations to the College Board and ACT. Know how to read and interpret psycho-educational reports.

Having extensive knowledge of college admissions requirements and application process.

Having knowledge of and using the Schoology Learning Management System and Aeries Student Information System for the purpose of student scheduling and advising.

Collaborating effectively with the school’s administration, faculty, and staff in all aspects of the counseling process.

Requirements

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree and experience working in a school environment. Desirable qualifications include a PPS credential in school counseling, a California Teaching Credential/MS Degree and/or experience working in a Catholic school. Additionally, ideal candidates will have experience in college/academic counseling at the high school level, creative approach to student advising and exposure to four-year universities, certification in college counseling, strong technical skills and familiarity with digital programs for college and career (e.g., Naviance); knowledge and commitment to Catholic education; and strong writing, communication, and organizational skills.​
